Leading in the technologies of the future with world-class resources to address global challenges.
Top-Tier Computing at Scale
Renowned for its broad strengths across all aspects of computer science—from computer systems to programming languages, artificial intelligence, machine learning and more—computer science at UT is home to the largest concentration of top computer science talent anywhere in the world.
I wanted to attend a big school with a ton of opportunities and people. No matter what interests I have, be it quantum computing or hyperloops, there’s always a group of unique people at UT who are just as excited to explore that interest with me.”
Experiences & Careers
CS students at UT participate in hackathons, intern with tech giants and start-ups, join labs to develop games, apps and robotics and study overseas. Many go on to pursue careers in and out of the technology sector or opt to continue their studies in graduate or professional school. Recent graduates have jobs like:
- Software engineer
- Computer and information research scientist
- Information security analyst
- Information scientist
- Video game designer
From programming house-keeping robots to informing decisions about self-driving cars to bolstering cybersecurity defenses, our students— from their first moments on campus—get involved in the heart of computing research at UT Austin. They’ve gone on to start innovative, leading companies with the help of faculty mentors and to take home top prizes at computing conferences.
Study & Learn
Computer science is a combination of logical thinking, problem solving, mathematical reasoning and creative software and hardware engineering. Computer scientists formulate computational solutions to problems using a range of logical, mathematical and software design skills. There are several concentrations available within the degree, as well as an Elements of Computing certificate and a Quantum Information Science certificate.
