Each year, programs at UT have offerings for high schoolers and school children with an interest in science and technology.

Families and future STEM leaders know that summer can be a great time for diving into learning about science, biotechnology, robotics, the natural world, space and a lot more. Programs throughout the College of Natural Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin provide ways for school-aged students and high schoolers to connect with a variety of K-12 science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) camps and academies. Several offer scholarship opportunities with applications closing soon.

STEM Summer Camps and Academies
Women in STEM
Open to rising 10th grade through 12th grade students, WiSTEM High School Summer Camps and Academies offer engaging on-campus and virtual experiences for students currently completing 9th‑11th grades and interested in exploring science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Registration is open now for camps and academies that offer hands-on design challenges, interactive sessions and connections with UT Austin students, faculty and industry professionals. Offerings include in-person Consider Every Option (CEO) Day Camps and the Summer Engineering Experience (SEE) and Summer Learning Academy (SLA) virtual academies. All participants will discover a range of STEM fields and potential career paths. Whether attending in person or online, students also will gain insight into college life, explore real-world applications of STEM and build confidence in their academic and career interests. Summer Engineering Experience
This two-month virtual program held in June and July lets participants explore engineering majors at UT Austin through hands-on design challenges, live webinars with STEM role models and engaging virtual content that highlights academic pathways and real-world careers in engineering.

Summer STEM Learning Academy
This two-month virtual program held in June and July gives participants opportunities to build essential STEM professional skills—such as design thinking, mindfulness in design and presentation skills. Participants benefit from interactive content, digital badge coursework and live webinars with STEM role models.
Summer Science
Marine Science Institute
Planning to get out of Austin? UT Summer Science has opportunities for school-age students to join real scientists in a quest for scientific discovery at the Texas coast (and in Alaska, for local residents). The week-long program for youth entering 5th through 11th grade is based in Port Aransas and offers immersion in marine science experiences at the UT Marine Science Institute. Participants get to learn about real-world marine science research through hands-on activities and will gain a deeper understanding of the marine environment. Sessions run from 8 a.m. to noon and are held in 2026: June 1‑ 5; June 8‑12; June 15‑18; and June 22‑26.

Summer STEM Camps
UTeach Outreach
Sessions fill early each year for UTeach Outreach Summer Camps, but spots remain in select sessions for 2026. These camps inspire and engage 3rd-12th graders with inquiry-based, hands-on STEM content. Students will also explore the Forty Acres at UT, interact with researchers and other STEM professionals, swim at Gregory Gym and more. Early STEM Engagement Camps each year give younger students an exciting introduction to STEM. Advanced content, career exploration opportunities and mentorship aligned with in-school curriculum for middle and high school students are available in UT PREP and STEM Academy Camps. Students will explore concepts related to mathematics, science, engineering, computational thinking and computer programming, depending on the session. UTeach Outreach also occasionally holds additional 1‑week special interest camps. Be sure to join the mailing list to receive updates about other camp offerings. In 2026, sessions for students in grades 3‑6 are currently full and will focus on chemistry and research in life sciences June 1‑5, 2026 and July 27‑31, 2026. UT Culinary Nutrition & Fitness Camp at Susie’s Kitchen
Department of Nutritional Sciences
Ready to get cooking? The camps at UT in Susie’s Kitchen offer a dynamic blend of culinary exploration, nutrition education and fitness activities to create a truly unique experience. Sessions include nutrition/health basics, knife skills, kitchen safety, proper kitchen cleaning techniques and, of course, cooking. Budding chefs of all ages learn all the key concepts they will need, plus campers have the opportunity to participate in fitness sessions with trainers from the Fitness Institute of Texas. All camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are open to students ages 8‑17. In 2026, camps themed around “International Cuisine” will be held June 15‑19, June 22‑26 and June 29-July 3 while sessions themed around “Fueling Healthy Futures” will be held July 20‑24 and July 27‑31. Summer High School Research Academy
College of Natural Sciences
The summer High School Research Academy (HSRA) provides high school students with an immersive and hands-on five-week interdisciplinary, non-residential summer research experience at The University of Texas at Austin campus. Students participate in research projects in active College of Natural Sciences laboratories related to the exciting fields of biochemistry, biology, chemistry, environmental science, genetics, neuroscience, genome engineering, data analytics, ecology and more. Participants learn cutting-edge research techniques while gaining valuable insights and experiences through interaction with UT students and faculty in college undergraduate research groups. Participants, 15‑18 years of age, attend fully in‑person sessions (no housing or transportation provided) June 8-July 15, 2026 with no sessions on June 19 or July 3. Academies in Computing
Department of Computer Science
Explore the future of computing at a variety of offerings from the Department of Computer Science. At most academies, students get a taste of university life by learning in The Gates-Dell Complex, the home of UT Computer Science, staying overnight in campus residence halls and being mentored by current undergraduate students. Registration is now open to students entering grades 10-12 in the fall of 2026. Academy scholarships must be applied for by Wednesday, April 15. Academy for Machine Learning
Students of all skill levels get to be immersed in Python programming, work alongside UT Computer Science faculty to understand the fundamentals of machine learning, and explore its societal impacts. Students will engage in hands-on experiences to grasp how machine learning works, write code for models, and explore new technologies with professors, industry experts and like-minded peers. In 2026, sessions will be held for advanced participants June 21 and 26 and for all levels July 12-July 17 and July 19-July 24.
Academy for Robotics
Spend part of this summer with robots at the one-week immersive summer program hosted by UT Computer Science faculty and suited for students of all skill levels looking to explore the world of intelligent robotics, carry out projects in simulation and experiment with wheeled robots. Students are introduced to the Linux OS and C++ programming language through immersive hands-on learning with like-minded peers. In 2026, the academy will be held June 26-July 31.
Academy for Game Development
Calling all gamers! At this academy, students explore the world of game development, including programming, art and game design, working with Java-Script and Phaser. Get an inside look at the creative and technical sides of game development. See how design studios operate, meet UT faculty and industry professionals, and explore future career paths. Through building your own playable web-based game, you’ll learn the essentials of computing, design and collaboration. In 2026, this academy will take place July 5-10.
Academy for Data Science Research
Explore how data scientists analyze real-world data to uncover meaningful insights. Through hands-on projects, you’ll learn the fundamentals of data analysis and machine learning while applying the scientific method to professional astronomical data. This daytime-only offering has no overnight stay but will give you a strong foundation in data science and data-driven discovery making. In 2026, this academy will be held July 27-Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
