Join Science Under the Stars for this April talk, as Sarah Ortiz, PhD candidate from the Department of Integrative Biology, talks about why biodiversity at the local levels matters and how UT researchers study biodiversity here in Austin.

Sarah Ortiz, Ph.D. candidate in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, will present “From the Ground Up – Exploring Biodiversity in Your Backyard.” Learn about how researchers explore biodiversity in Austin, from soils to herbivores, and how to best cultivate biodiversity in your backyard. 

Schedule:

  • 7:00 pm: Kid’s activities and natural history displays of local animals and plants found at Brackenridge Field Laboratory
  • 7:15 pm-7:45 pm: Guided tour of the field lab, offering you a unique glimpse into the ongoing field research (wear sturdy shoes and bring water)!
  • 8:00 pm: Settle in, because the talk begins now!
  • 8:45 pm: Q&A with the speaker

The talk will be held outdoors at Brackenridge Field Laboratory.


Science Under the Stars is a free public outreach lecture series in Austin, Texas run by UT graduate students.
