Description
From executive producer Werner Herzog (“Cave of Forgotten Dreams”; “Grizzly Man”) and director Ian Cheney (“King Corn”), “The Arc of Oblivion” is an unexpectedly playful search for an answer to a deeply existential question. Set against the backdrop of the filmmaker’s quixotic quest to build an ark in a field in Maine, the film heads far afield — to salt mines in the Alps, fjords in the Arctic and ancient libraries in the Sahara — to illuminate the strange world of archives, record-keeping and memory.
Preceding the film, hear from film co-producer, Robyn Metcalfe and Dr. Michael Drew, Professor of Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Drew’s research focuses on understanding how the brain forms memories of our experiences and how these memories are retrieved at the right time and place.
Each event in the Science Night Out series will feature an in-person presentation and a science-themed documentary from Sandbox Films, the Oscar-nominated production studio that illuminates the art and beauty of scientific inquiry: humankind’s weird, messy, brilliant way of navigating the world.
The first event in this series is “Black Holes: The Edge of All We Know” on March 1 at the Texas Science Festival (Feb. 21-Mar. 6).
