Description
Psychiatric conditions still face stigma leading to a low number of people getting diagnosed and receiving help, especially when it comes to AUD. In our stigma symposium, invited guest speakers from diverse backgrounds reflect on how stigma impacts individuals with AUD and what we can do to reduce stigma on a daily basis.
Speakers:
- Goldey Lab, St. Edwards University: How stigma affects the mindset, treatment seeking and recovery of individuals with AUD.
- Chris Marshall, owner of Sans Bar Austin & mental health advocate: The development of non-alcoholic alternatives as part of creating a non-alcohol-focused community.
- AJ Iglis, SHIFT: SHIFT and the vision of a stigma-free campus culture at UT Austin.
- Claire Valera, sober influencer: Personal story about recovering from AUD and experiencing stigma as an individual in recovery.
- Lilly Ettinger, Center for Students in Recovery: Recovery science and the impact of stigma.
Pizza and refreshments will be served. After the seminar, enjoy FREE mocktails provided by UT SHIFT Makers.
