Description
Come learn about Proyecto oriGen, or the OriGen Project, a flagship initiative of Tecnológico de Monterrey to create a genomic database of 100,000 Mexican citizens that is integrated with clinical-epidemiological data and a sample biorepository. The aim of the project is to promote the development of research that has an impact on the health of the country.
The project’s director, Dr. Pablo Kuri, will discuss how OriGen was developed, its significance, its current state and future directions.
Dr. Kuri is a physician and epidemiologist with over three decades of experience in health security, pandemics, and health systems. Prior to leading Project OriGen, Dr. Kuri was Director General of Epidemiology and of the National Center for Epidemiological Surveillance and Disease Control at the Ministry of Health. As Undersecretary of Health, he was responsible for Mexico’s response to threats such as anthrax, SARS, influenza, Ebola and Zika, among others. He was a professor on the Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) for 34 years and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and Academic Secretary of the National Council of Public Health.
