Description

Sandy Yamamoto, violin, and Anton Nel, piano, of the UT Butler School of Music will perform alongside Matt Zelkind, cello, from the University of Denver. They will perform works by Beethoven and Mendelssohn.

Sandy Yamamoto

Violinist Sandy Yamamoto is Associate Professor of Practice in Violin Performance at the UT Butler School of Music and has dazzled audiences in concert performances as a soloist and as a founding member of the Miro Quartet. Among her many honors, she won First Prize at the Banff International String Quartet Competition and was one of the first chamber musicians to be awarded an Avery Fisher Career Grant.

Anton Nel

Anton Nel is the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Endowed Chair in Piano and Professor of Piano and Chamber Music at the UT Butler School of Music and enjoys a multifaceted career as a soloist and chamber musician. He is a winner of numerous awards including first prize in the 1987 Naumburg International Piano Competition. During the summers he serves on the artist-faculties at the Aspen Music Festival and School, the Orford Music Academy in Quebec, and at the Steans Institute at the Ravinia Festival. 

Matt Zalkind

Matt Zalkind is professor of cello at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music and regularly performs throughout the U.S. and abroad as a recitalist, soloist and chamber musician. A prize winner at multiple major competitions, he received Bachelors and Masters degrees from Juilliard and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan. 

The concert is part of the Musical Memories series sponsored by the Department of Neuroscience in collaboration with Dell Seton Medical Center.
