Description
The annual Machine Learning Lab Matching Event will be held on Friday, Oct. 17, from 2-4 p.m. in the GDC Atrium. This event pairs faculty seeking machine learning expertise with undergraduate and master's students eager to contribute to research projects. Please note: This is not a Ph.D. recruiting event.
The Machine Learning Lab is looking for well-defined projects that could benefit from machine-learning tools. Over the past four years, collaborations have been successful and even led to published work. Faculty from across campus are invited to submit.
How to Participate
If you 1) have a suitable research project and 2) can commit to having a presence at the event, please complete this project submission form for internal use no later than October 1.
At the event, each faculty member (or their representative, e.g., a postdoc from their group) will be assigned to a table to meet with interested students. Students will review all project descriptions beforehand and visit the tables of projects they find appealing. After the event, you can follow up with students to finalize matches.
Well-crafted project descriptions that are engaging and exciting invite attention from qualified students. Contact Rebekah Rice for an example of a successful entry.
New This Year: Seat at the TableThis year includes optional Seat at the Table sessions for students who want more focused, face-to-face interaction with researchers. This feature has been highly requested in past years. While researcher participation is not required, it is strongly encouraged, as it gives students a valuable opportunity to connect directly with you. Slots will run every 20 minutes from 2:00-4:00pm.
For each 20-minute session, five chairs will be placed at your table and reserved for students who signed up in advance. These students will have priority in asking questions and engaging with you directly. Other interested students are still welcome and encouraged to gather around and listen in as usual and ask their own questions at the end.
Please submit your project using this form by October 1.
