Entering Freshmen: Apply for the Fall Period

In order to join FRI in the fall of your freshman year, you must have been accepted to the College of Natural Sciences as a freshman.  If you are a transfer student or advanced student, you should Apply for Spring or Apply for Summer.  Students in the College of Natural Sciences have the highest priority in joining FRI.

Early Application

Students who plan to join UT-Austin for the 2017-18 academic year and are interested in the FRI Program may submit an online application to the FRI Early Application starting on February 1st.

Key Dates for Early Application

  • February 1, 2017 - Early application opens.
  • April 7, 2017 - Early application closes.
  • May 1, 2017 - Students who apply via the FRI Early Application will be notified of our acceptance decision.

Late Application

Students who are admitted to the College of Natural Sciences for the 2017-18 academic year and miss the April 7th early application deadline can submit a Late FRI Application. The late application form will close on May 23rd, and students will receive notification before the first summer orientation session.

Waitlist Application

Students who miss the early and late FRI application cycles may submit a Waitlist Application. These applications will be considered on a rolling basis, as space becomes available.  If you recieve a placement, we will contact you during the summer.

Waitlisted students who have not been admitted before the fall semester are not guaranteed a seat in an FRI stream for spring. However, waitlisted students are still invited to submit a Stream Sort form, which will move them to the stream waitlist. If space allows, waitlisted students may be placed into streams for spring.
