Last year's OA Team:

Felipe C.

Felipe

Major: Chemistry
Thing(s) to check out at Orientation: Everyone should go to Longhorns: Beyond the Surface. This show talks about social justice issues and diversity on campus. This version of the show last year during my orientation session literally changed my life, and this year I had the privilege of being part of the cast and being on the committee that produced the show!
Favorite thing(s) about UT: I think that being a student at UT is the perfect balance of being a part of a huge university and also being able to connect with smaller cohorts. Longhorns are able to say that they are a part of a very competitive and prestigious university while being able to be part of smaller communities that empower you to change the world.

Hamza A.

 Hamza

Major: Biology
Thing(s) to check out at Orientation: My favorite part of orientation is conversing with and interacting with new students as they are trying to figure out what they want to take away from their next four years on the 40 Acres.
Favorite thing(s) about UT: My favorite aspect of UT is all the opportunity it holds. If you want to research you can do that here, if you want to get involved and become a student leader you can do that, if you want to study abroad, or study outside your major and take a class from nationally ranked programs you can do that here at The University of Texas.

Thing(s) to check out at Orientation: My favorite Orientation program is definitely Longhorns Beyond the Surface. It highlights a lot of the really awesome differences among UT students and all of the opportunities here to celebrate our strengths and diversities while recognizing our amaxing talents that make us all Longhorns.
Favorite thing(s) about UT: I love UT because I have the ability and resources to explore all of my interests and begin my path to changing the world!

Daniel R.

Daniel

Major: Social Work
Thing(s) to check out at Orientation: For incoming students, the large UT campus may seem a bit intimidating, especially when picking out classes and ensuring a reasonable walk from one location to another. I would recommend just taking a look around campus and exploring the buildings. Get acclimated to your surroundings and don't be afraid to ask questions. Explore campus on your own, with a group or on a tour and get a first hand look at what the university has to offer!
Favorite thing(s) about UT: My favorite thing about UT is that it offers an interesting aura to university life. It is a large and prestigious institution and one is in complete control of the college experience they wish to have during their time on the Forty Acres. From classes to extracurriculars to internships, your college experience is completely in your hands at the University of Texas at Austin.
