A memorial fund honoring the late Professor Emeritus Antone G. Jacobson, Ph.D. has been established to support the Women in Natural Sciences (WINS) program at the College of Natural Sciences. The fund recognizes a faculty member who made significant contributions to The University of Texas at Austin over a span of forty years.

Dr. Jacobson joined UT Austin’s Department of Zoology in 1957 and became a professor emeritus in 1997. During his tenure, Dr. Jacobson taught 21 courses, reaching more than 8,500 students while creating opportunities for diverse students to explore the sciences.

The WINS program is designed to cultivate, recruit, and retain high-achieving women in the College of Natural Sciences. By supporting women, beginning during their first year, WINS creates a community of scholars focused on scientific achievement at the university and beyond. Funds will be used to support WINS student research efforts.

"He was an extraordinarily supportive and encouraging mentor to several of us women in his lab, in a time when pathways for women in science were not very clear. I believe a fund to support research opportunities for WINS students is one that Antone would have approved of.”
BETH BURNSIDE, Ph.D., Vice Chancellor Emerita, University of California, Berkeley
