One of the cornerstones of the FRI model is that each research experience is integrated with the science curriculum. Each semester of work in a Research Stream grants course credit that substitutes for otherwise required courses.

Some Research Streams are interdisciplinary and offer more than one credit option for students. And, students can be flexible about which courses they claim for credit. For example, a student participating in an interdisciplinary Stream offering Biology and Chemistry credit can select Biology credit for their freshman lab and Chemistry credit for their upper division credit the following Fall. We do not, however, allow two semesters of FRI to substitute for two freshman labs.
