As a parent of an FRI student, you understand the value of community for your new college student. The College of Natural Sciences' Freshman Research Initiative (FRI) fosters a community of students at all levels, researchers and faculty who are excited about science, education and the future. It is changing the way students learn science and it’s the first and largest program in the nation to place freshman in dedicated labs doing real, original research.
Importantly, FRI will also help keep your son or daughter on track to graduate on-time because FRI research experiences count for course credit that helps students complete degree requirements.
The FRI experience will help prepare your student for any number of opportunities, including: serving as a peer mentor to other students FRI; doing research on campus; publishing or presenting work of their own or with industry partners. In addition, FRI students are eligible to apply for unique, paid Summer Research Fellowships in their FRI labs. It also gives students the opportunity to form friendships with like-minded students in their labs.
We appreciate your involvement and interest in our community and your student’s future!
