Anchoring our education and research efforts to the public we serve
Because we have a role in creating a more vibrant Texas and beyond, we aim to deepen our relationships with the public and engage our dynamic and diverse community with the science and mathematics that we do.
The College will promote this through:
- engaging meaningfully with the public to inspire interest in science and broaden literacy around scientific topics
- promoting inclusive and welcoming environments for all, with concrete strategies for action
- expanding engagement with institutions and groups outside of UT that serve communities of color, so that we are intentional partners with groups the college has rarely or never reached
- assessing and highlighting existing STEM outreach efforts in the college and across UT, while working toward coordinating, partnering and growing these efforts strategically to extend access to them and participation
- crafting development strategies tied to the overall strategic framework in ways that benefit the college community, Texas and all whom we serve
Progress we are proud of:
- CNS reached people worldwide with our science story-telling, including record media coverage across the globe related to achievements and discoveries by CNS faculty.
- The college launched World Changers and You Belong Here campaigns in our shared spaces.
- CNS held virtual outreach and public engagement events across Natural Sciences throughout 2020.
- The college met and exceeded goals set in annual development efforts to support critical work that benefits society, including establishing a University of Texas COVID-19 Modeling Consortium.
