Honors Residential Program (HRP): The HRP is a living-learning environment of 40 first-year students and 20 second-year students that creates a support network and atmosphere conducive to young women pursuing successful careers in science. This web-based software program matches people in one-on-one mentoring relationships. A FIG is a cohort of up to 20 first-year students who take 2–4 courses together and a 1-hour seminar. There are two types of FIGS– residential and non-residential. WINS’ FIG is residential, which means that in addition to taking courses together these students also live together in the Whitis Court Dormitory. Student Organizations: There are 4 student organizations within WINS: Women in Chemistry, Women in Computer Sciences, Women in Medicine, and Women in Science. WINS sponsors development workshops aimed at promoting academic, professional, and personal success. Topics have included locating and obtaining summer research opportunities, developing successful study skills, understanding non-traditional careers in science, and more. Leadership Development and Volunteerism: WINS sponsors outreach programs and events designed to stimulate the scientific curiosity of elementary, middle, and high school age girls. WINS students gain valuable leadership skills and give back to the community through active participation in the coordination and operation of these events.
