An examination of careers in academia- A look at three career areas common in the world of academia:
    *Research and/or teaching at a university (the emphasis can be on
      either research or teaching)
    *Includes Top 10 Research Universities, Research Universities not
      considered top 10, and 4-year Teaching Colleges/Liberal Arts Schools
    *Research (and possibly a little teaching) at non-teaching institutes
      that are associated with a university
     *Research and/or teaching at a medical schoo

**Panel candidate recommendation- individuals who have completed at least two years of a faculty appointment. The keynote for this workshop will be relatively brief and the majority of the time will be spent in Q & A with the panelists (whereas the keynote for the other three workshops will be at least 30 minutes).


WORKSHOP #2 - April 10, 3:30-5:00, ACES 2.302

Preparing for a career in academia- A review of the major graduate school
and post-doctoral benchmarks needed for good academic curriculum vitae.

**Panel members will be individuals who have served on faculty search
committees or are in positions to describe qualifications common to most new
hires at their institution. Currently, we have faculty from St. Edward's
University, The University of Texas at Austin, and Trinity University, and
Southwestern University lined up for the panel.


WORKSHOP #3 - May 2, 4:00-5:30, ACES 2.302

Navigating the application & interview process- A look at the ins and outs
of preparing your application packet, nailing the interview, and negotiating
your start-up package.

**Panel members will be individuals who have recently experienced the
process of applying and interviewing such as a new faculty member or someone
who participated in the hiring process. Currently, we have faculty from St.
Edward's University, The University of Texas at Austin, and Trinity
University lined up for the panel.

WORKSHOP #4 - June 11, 10:30-12:00, ACES 2.302

Tenure Trials- A look at what you can expect the first few years as
tenure-stream faculty member.

** Panel members will be junior level faculty who have recently been through
the tenure review process (awarded or not) or participated on a tenure
review committee. Currently, we have faculty from Texas State University,
St. Edward's University, and The University of Texas at Austin lined up for
the panel.
