About Us

The purpose of Women In Computer Sciences is to provide opportunities for professional growth through activities on career-oriented topics while establishing a “social network” for women in computer sciences. Our members are a diverse group of students in every level of their studies. WICS encourages high standards of competence and promotes an attitude of excellence among its members.

Yvonne De La Pena and Kristine Bergsli initiated the University of Texas student chapter of The Association for Women In Computing in October 1999. Their hope was that one day every woman who came to the University of Texas to study computer sciences would in some way participate in the organization. The current officers are continuing to work toward this goal.
