Entrepreneurial Forum PosterThursday, April 12th, 2012, the Entrepreneurial Society student organization hosts the first CNS Entrepreneurial Forum. The one day Forum includes a 3-4 member panel discussion from 2:00-3:30pm to be held in Welch Hall 2.224. The panel will discuss their experiences of becoming an entrepreneur and the challenges and rewards of starting their own business. The audience will be predominately undergraduate students from the College of Natural Sciences, but students from other colleges are invited as well. From 1:00-4:30 pm, booths sponsored by on-campus entrepreneurial student organizations and/or related programs, as well as outside organizations will be in Welch Hall providing information on a variety of entrepreneurial opportunities. The one-day Forum concludes with a 5:45pm talk by John Paul DeJoria in the LBJ Auditorium. Parking provided.

Distinguished Lecture 2011

"Mining the Human Mind: Entrepreneurship and the Knowledge Society"

With Dr. Skip Porter, Associate Dean for Innovation and Science Enterprise.

  • October 2, 2011, Sunday, 5-7 pm - UTC 2.112A. Lecture required for all TIP, BSP students.
  • October 9, 2011, Sunday, 5-7 pm - WEL 2.224. Lecture required for all Dean's Scholars, Health Science Honors, FRI and Women in Natural Sciences students.
  • In this college lecture, we will review and discuss the creation of wealth in a knowledge based society and how to think and act entrepreneurally with examples from those who have made it happen. We'll review how nations' economies have been driven by mining the sea and the land, and now how the mind will be given prominence. A focus on the role science has played in the Wealth of Nations will be given including the relative impacts of policies and actions in the government, university and industry sectors. Student interaction and discussion is encouraged.
As a follow up to this lecture, Dr. Porter will be inviting interested students to additional conversations with him and area entrepreneurs. If you are interested in joining this group, please fill out the form.
