A poster session is a student researcher's time to shine. Almost all major scientific meetings have "poster sessions," and posters are formatted in a standard way. For a really great site on how to create a poster, go to http://www.utexas.edu/ugs/ugr/poster.

Poster printing is provided free of charge by the college to undergraduate College of Natural Sciences students presenting at conferences or participating in our annual Research Forum. Students are welcome to print their own posters if they have access to alternative resources.

Group Printing Requests:

The CNS poster printer can be used in support of on-campus poster sessions (for degrees or departments), or for poster assignments in courses. However, our facility is not staffed as a full-service printing facility, and course-based printing and on-campus event printing must be coordinated with our office in advance.  Requests must be submitted at least a week in advance of the event or due date.  Requests may take up to five business days to process (from file submission to poster pick-up). Additionally, course-based posters are limited to a canvas size of  24 x 36 inches.

Please email group requests to: utcnsposters@gmail.com

Individual Printing Requests:

Printing can be done Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 4:00pm. We require a 24-hour turn around time for all individual poster printing requests. Please email requests to: utcnsposters@gmail.com

*Note: Poster printing priority will be given to those participating in the Undergraduate Research Forum from March 30, 2015 - April 17, 2015.

Printing can be done at any time (within office hours) up until the week before an event.  This includes if you have a conference at another time during the year and would like to print your poster at that time, for later use at the CNS Research Forum. For each event, one full poster is printed free of charge for any CNS undergraduate student or undergraduate doing research with a CNS faculty member. CNS Undergraduates who require multiple prints will be charged $25 per additional print.

There is a $50 charge that applies to non-undergraduate CNS students or faculty and persons outside the college who would like to print using our facilities. Payment can be made at the OHRIS TXShop store HERE. Once payment has been made please follow the below instructions.

Max size: 42 x 60. There is an additional $10 per foot over 60 inches.

Completed posters can be brought to PAI 3.04 or sent to utcnsposters@gmail.com. Please email receipt or bring confirmation of payment. When emailing your poster to us please entitle your document your first and last name. Posters typically take 20-30 minutes to print (barring any formatting problems) and 3 hours - overnight to dry depending on how dark the poster is (how much ink is used). Please do not use dark backgrounds. Our printer can print posters either 36 or 42 inches tall.

Posters can be designed in Powerpoint:

  1. In Page Setup, set the size you would like your poster to be. For example, 42" x 60" or 36" x 54".  Typical font size for the poster title at this scale would be around 90, with poster text around 24.
  2. Please do not use dark backgrounds for your posters.  These require too much ink and delays the printing process.

Posters can also be designed in Adobe Illustrator, but in that case you would set the poster up (when you create the document) to scale (36 or 42 inches tall by less than 60 inches long) and we print straight from the program.

File formats we accept are Powerpoint and PDF. Note that all poster printing is done through a PC. At times there can be MAC/PC compatibility issues.
