The College of Natural Sciences is the largest college at The University of Texas at Austin, the largest undergraduate science college in Texas, and one of the largest science colleges in the nation. Although you are the only person who can decide what major is best for you, the university offers resources, such as Wayfinder, to help you navigate your options. Wayfinder is an interactive website that assists prospective, admitted, and current students in choosing an academic major. Wayfinder houses in-depth information on UT majors and certificate programs; features career profiles of successful professionals in different industries; and offers self-assessments to help students identify their interests, skills, and values. How to ApplyApplications for admission are submitted to the Office of Admissions using the Apply Texas application. To be considered for the College of Natural Sciences, simply indicate Natural Sciences as a major choice on your Apply Texas application. What Makes a Successful Natural Sciences StudentGenuine excitement for math or science is the first “prerequisite” for success in the College of Natural Sciences. Prospective Natural Sciences students shoud have demonstrated interest and ability in Natural Sciences, which may be reflected by math and science coursework and extra-curricular activities. Students may choose to expand on their math or science interest in the admissions application essay or resume by sharing information about defining experiences or specific opportunities such as math/science student organizations, job shadowing, internships, competitions and awards, etc. In addition to excitement and demonstrated interest, strong mathematics preparation is critical. Successful College of Natural Sciences students are prepared to begin math at the Calculus level during their freshman year at UT Austin. In the admissions application process, math preparation is often demonstrated by performance in high school math coursework and SAT or ACT scores.
