How to Apply

What Makes a Successful Natural Sciences Student

Genuine excitement for math or science is the first “prerequisite” for success in the College of Natural Sciences.  Prospective Natural Sciences students shoud have demonstrated interest and ability in Natural Sciences, which may be reflected by math and science coursework and extra-curricular activities.  Students may choose to expand on their math or science interest in the admissions application essay or resume by sharing information about defining experiences or specific opportunities such as math/science student organizations, job shadowing, internships, competitions and awards, etc.

In addition to excitement and demonstrated interest, strong mathematics preparation is critical.  Successful College of Natural Sciences students are prepared to begin math at the Calculus level during their freshman year at UT Austin.  In the admissions application process, math preparation is often demonstrated by performance in high school math coursework and SAT or ACT scores.
