Postdoc Resources

The college offers information about employment, funding opportunities, professional development and more for postdocs.

Listserv

Scott Burghart, Director for Postgraduate Education, maintains an email listserv for CNS postdocs, with information about upcoming events and activities specifically for postdocs. All CNS postdocs are encouraged to participate in monthly professional development seminars and to utilize other career development resources described in the weekly email.

Funding Opportunities

Information about postdoctoral funding opportunities is regularly updated, and workshops are available to help you prepare funding proposals. If you need help identifying the departmental support staff who can assist you with proposal preparation and getting the necessary permissions from UT to submit a proposal, you can contact: cns_sri@austin.utexas.edu.  Keep in mind that you should begin the administrative process at least 2 weeks in advance of your deadline.

Electives and Concentrations

The college offers a free curriculum for graduate students and postdocs interested in the following topics:

Teaching and Mentoring

These courses will allow you to expand knowledge and experience in teaching and mentoring undergraduates beyond what is typically gained from a TA experience. Postdocs who complete the concentration will earn the CNS Graduate Concentration in Teaching and Mentoring

Communicating Science

In partnership with the Moody College of Communication, CNS offers you a chance to participate in a free semester-long experience designed to hone your ability to effectively describe research to various audiences.

Leadership and Project Management

We offer two free courses through the McCombs School of Business that enhance the leadership abilities of participants. You can earn the concentration by completing Leading People and Organizations and Strategic Management.

Science and Public Policy

Offered via a course through the LBJ School of Public Policy.
