The following student groups are registered with the Dean of Students Office. Information on fall meeting dates, locations, and times can be found on the student organization website.

Health Professions Council (HPC)
The presidents of the 23 pre-health professions student organizations make up the HPC. The goal of the HPC is to provide a link between the organizations and the Health Professions Office. One of the major annual events the HPC co-sponsors with the Health Professions Office is the Health Professions Fair, which is held during the spring semester.

Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED)
AED, the national premedical society, sponsors programs and activities such as doctor shadowing and volunteer services to help students learn about their respective professions. Potential members must have at least a 3.2 grade point average, both overall and science. There is no credit requirement for local membership.

Alpha Phi Sigma (APS)
Alpha Phi Sigma is a pre-medical honor society founded on the inalienable principles of scholarship, service, and leadership. APS strives to be an integral resource for students by providing up to date information about the medical field, community service, leadership experiences, and social activities. In addition, APS provides its members with mock MCATs, trips to medical schools, and scholarships. Alpha Phi Sigma was also voted "Best Professional Organization" by the UT Leadership Board for 2004 & 2005.

American Medical Students Association (AMSA)
AMSA Pre-Med is the undergraduate branch of the American Medical Students Association. AMSA Pre-Med programs include medical student mentoring, regional conferences and debates about medical topics.

Asian Health Professions Organization (AHPO)
AHPO was originally founded to provide students with social camaraderie and with an opportunity to become more familiar with the medical field. Through time, AHPO has developed into an organization that provides students with peer support, advice, and a means for students to prepare for their medical careers. This organization provides academic assistance and opportunities to develop character and leadership skills through organizational and community projects.

Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society (BBB)
The purpose of the BBB Biological Honors Society is to function as an honor and professional society for students of the biological sciences. It emphasizes a three-fold program: stimulation of scholarship, dissemination of scientific knowledge, and promotion of biological research. Tri-Beta also serves to inform students more about biology-related careers at our periodic meetings where we introduce you to a relevant topic of scientific interest. Tri-Beta also organizes volunteering activities on and off campus and maintains a tutoring program.

Black Health Professions Organization (BHPO)
BHPO provides support for black students interested in all health-related professions. BHPO recognizes the challenges facing minorities aspiring to enter the health-related professions and thus provides a source of information concerning classes, campus resources, and improving the awareness of students and the community about health issues.

Business Healthcare Association (BHA)
The mission of Business Healthcare Association is to expose students to the financial, managerial, and legal aspects of providing healthcare. Offering both volunteering and social opportunities, BHA hosts biweekly discussions and advises students interested in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. BHA is open to all majors.

Global Medical Training (GMT)
Global Medical Training offers healthcare students the opportunity to obtain first hand medical experience while providing free basic medical services to communities in Central America and Mexico. We aim to make the experience as easy as possible for new trippers. The organization assists students with meeting fellow GMTers before leaving, conducting training workshops, and opportunities in financial aide.

Health Careers Mentorship Program (HCMP)
The Health Careers Mentorship Program is established to teach mature students about the clinical and non-clinical aspects of the health care system. Selected individuals will gain valuable and practical experiences through the shadowing of local physicians/health professionals. The health professionals will play an instrumental role in the development of tomorrow's practioners as mentors for HCMP interns. Information sessions are held every semester for students to learn more about the program and how they can become a member.

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)
HOSA, a nation-wide organization, helps students on the high school and collegiate level achieve a career in health care and reach their potential in leadership and community service projects. Students participate in leadership events, fundraisers, and attend area, state and national competitions and conferences.

Hispanic Health Professions Organization (HHPO)
Hispanic Health Professions Organization (HHPO) provides Mexican American pre-health professions students with academic information, peer support and cultural and social camaraderie. MAHPO’s main objective is to familiarize students with information concerning summer programs and the professional school application process.

Occupational Therapy Organization (OTO)
The Occupational Therapy Organization's purpose is to gain knowledge about occupational therapy and the field of allied health sciences. The organization will focus on preparation for professional school and will present various speakers from professional schools and occupational therapists in the Austin area.

Physical Therapy Organization (PTO)
The Physical Therapy Organization helps students seeking a career in physical therapy. PTO provides information to students, sponsors speakers from physical therapy schools, offers peer counseling and hosts several social functions. PTO also provides a forum to voice concerns about majors, prerequisite classes and application procedures.

Plan II Pre-Medical Society
Purpose: to inform, organize and prepare premedical students in the Plan II community for medical school and medical school application process.

Pre-Optometry Professional Society (POPS)
Optometry deals with the diagnosis of vision problems an their correction. The organization plans various activities for members including a trip to the University of Houston College of Optometry, Optometry Admission Test study sessions and identifying volunteer opportunities.

Pre-Osteopathic Medical Society (POMS)
Osteopathy is a natural medicine which aims to restore function to the organism by treating the causes of pain and imbalance. It assesses and treats from the perspective of the whole body and seeks to restore the proper mobility of its component parts and re-establish synchronous and harmonious relationships among its systems. The purpose of POMS is to give those interested in osteopathic medicine various opportunities to learn about the field in depth, promoting a social, non-competitive environment.

Pre-Physician Assistant Society (Pre-PAS)
Pre-PAS is organized to help students become familiar with the broad aspects of becoming a PA. It is also structured to help PA bound students with the admissions processes to the programs. PrePAS is a student member of the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants (TAPA). We welcome special speakers including PAs and PA program representatives. Membership includes opportunities for field trips to TAPA events and PA schools/programs, and community involvement through socials and various volunteering/shadowing opportunities.

Pre-Veterinary Association
The Pre-Veterinary Association provides information to students about careers in veterinary medicine, entrance requirements to the veterinary colleges and volunteer activities. The Pre-Veterinary Association also sponsors speakers in the fields of veterinary medicine and trips to veterinary facilities as well as social activities.

Society of Public Health Students (SPHS)
SPHS is the first and only student group at UT Austin designed for those interested in a career in public health. Core areas of public health include epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, healthcare administration, and health education. SPHS provides important information about applying to graduate school, research opportunities, and overall, we strive to promote the field of public health.

South Asian Health Professions Association (SAHPA)
SAHPA serves as a guide to students interested in pursuing a career in the health professions. Activities include volunteering at local hospitals, field trips to medical schools, and hearing speakers from the professional fields.

Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC)
The Student Health Advisory Committee serves as student representatives to the University Health Services, promoters and advocates for health-related concerns and issues, and liaisons between the UHS administration and student body. We function as a focus group for improving the University Health Services, plan outreach programs, and interview candidates for administrative, health provider, and UHS Volunteer positions. SHAC members are selected through an application and interview process each Spring and serve at least a one-year commitment.

Texas Pre-Dental Society (TPDS)
The Texas Pre-Dental Society is a national student-run organization which protects and advances the rights, interests, and welfare of students pursuing careers in dentistry. TPDS is open to all UT-Austin students interested in learning more about the field of dentistry. TPDS invites dentists and current dental students as speakers. In addition, our group organizes field trips to the dental school, sponsors mock DAT and engages in service products.

Women in Medicine (WIM)
WIM provides fellowship and support for students interested in issues affecting women entering the medical field. WIM promotes the exchange of ideas and interaction within the organization and is committed to sponsoring programs that will make students aware of options available in medical professions. Programs include speakers from medical fields, socials, volunteer opportunities and trips to medical schools.
