Honors Programs

The College of Natural Sciences offers both college-wide and departmental honors program opportunities that provide small honors classes, dedicated academic advising and participation in the college's nationally-recognized Freshmen Research Initiative.

College-Wide Honors Programs

The College of Natural Sciences Dean's Scholars Honors and Health Science Honors are programs for exceptional science and mathematics majors interested in research and/or in health professions. The student participants are of the highest academic caliber. Students apply for either honors program through a common application in which they are required to indicate a preference between the two programs.

  • Dean's Scholars Honors - Dean's Scholars Honors is a 4-year degree program in which students earn a Bachelors of Science that is designated as an honors degree in any of the majors offered by the College of Natural Sciences. This program focuses on an innovative interdisciplinary curriculum that features more elective hours than standard degree plans and culminates in an Honors Research Thesis.
  • Health Science Honors - The Health Science Honors Program is a cohort of high-caliber students that are passionate about health professions.  In addition to the resources mentioned above, HSH will provide access to an extensive array of clinical and research internships, and will provide support for career exploration and a capstone health sciences presentation.
  • University Fellows Honors - The University Fellows Honors Program is a community of committed science majors whose interests, curiosity, and talents extend beyond any single science, or even the sciences altogether. In tandem with an Honors degree, and with input from noted faculty, each Fellow designs a certificate curriculum in a field of study that connects two or more disciplines.

Departmental Honors Programs

The College of Natural Sciences departmental honors programs offer degree-specific honors cohorts within an academic department. The student participants are of the highest academic caliber. Students are eligible to apply for departmental honors programs based on their indicated majors.

  • Human Ecology Honors Programs- Nutritional Sciences and Human Development & Family Sciences Honors Programs offer robust internship opportunities, faculty-guided research and personalized academic support through small classes and specialized advising.
