Research MethodsInstructor: Dr. David Laude Students take this course, specialized for CNS Honors students, during their first semester at UT. This course is non-discipline specific, meaning the class is comprised of students from many different majors. In general, this Research Methods has two main objectives:
The course introduces students to the traditions established in the arts and sciences for generating new knowledge from originial ideas. Modeled after the way that faculty conduct research, students are required to create original research reports that use skills introduced in lecture and that use university resources. From the first day of class when students are given the assignment to "go out and do something interesting and come back and tell us about it," the process of reshaping the way one thinks as an independent creative thinker begins. Seminar for First-Year HSH StudentsInstructor: Dr. Ruth Buskirk Incoming HSH students have a weekly seminar to explore topics in emerging health science areas. Visiting faculty, distinguished speakers, and advisors will speak on topics including emergent health careers, academic planning for competitive post-baccalaureate programs, ethics in health care, and health science research on campus.
