Dean's Office IT Staff
Byron Barry is the full-time manager of our dean's office computer support staff. Chris Wilson (now full-time) and Trent Miller (a half-time student) assist Byron. The computer support staff are most easily reached through our
computer help web form. Rhonda Hostetler and Darvis Griffin are our web designers/developers. Melissa Medina-Razzaque is the systems administrator for our servers.
Staff Computers
We are virtually finished with our project of helping staff reclaim valuable desk and floor space by eliminating CRT monitors, "tower" computers, and satellite speakers with subwoofers. We have standardized on Apple and Dell computers that are the size of a cigar box and 19" flat panel monitors with sound bars. Our goal is that all computers be covered by a three-year (in the case of Apple) or four-year (in the case of Dell) warranty. Computers will be automatically replaced when they become four years old.
Standardized E-mail Aliases
To give the dean's office a more professional image and to help people remember our e-mail addesses, each member of our staff has been assigned an "e-mail alias". This address is of the form
firstname.lastname@cns.utexas.edu
If your last name is unique in the dean's office, you also have a shorter alias of the form
lastname@cns.utexas.edu
These aliases do not replace or interfere with the e-mail address that you may have had for years and may have given to hundreds of people. Mail sent to your aliases will be routed to the mailbox where you're already reading your e-mail.
You are enouraged to use your standardized e-mail alias on business cards, on publications, and on web pages. Our computer support staff can configure your e-mail program so that your alias appears as the return address on your outgoing messages.
