Michael Marder is the associate dean for mathematics and science education. He oversees many of the initiatives by which the College of Natural Sciences works to improve mathematics and science instruction.

These include UTeach, which prepares undergraduate students and degree holders to become certified teachers. UTeach is being replicated at more than 20 universities across the United States. Other initiatives include professional development for Texas secondary science and mathematics teachers, including a Master's program.
