Project Mentoring in Austin
CNS Project Mentor is an exciting new initiative that matches university students with boys and girls in area elementary, middle, and high schools. Our goal is to help break down real and perceived barriers young people may have in terms of finishing high school and going to college. Mentoring involves meeting a child in school weekly or bi-weekly for homework assistance, conversation, and/or activities. Mentors will receive training.
Recruitment is currently underway for CNS students interested in becoming a part of CNS Project Mentor. Mentors are people who enjoy sharing ideas and talents with others, want to make a contribution to society, and believe in young people and their potential. If you are and know students who are interested in exploring teaching as a career, who enjoy working with children, or who would simply like to "be there" for a child in need of an adult role model, please encourage them to consider joining CNS Project Mentor.
Open Mentoring
Open Mentoring is an online tool that connects up mentors-- upper-division undergraduate students, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, faculty members, alumni, and industry friends--with students looking for mentors to aid them with their studies, their career plans, and their lives as students at UT-Austin.
Women and underrepresented populations are highly encouraged to participate since the corresponding student populations continually list "role models" as one of their greatest needs in making a connection to their major and prospective careers.
