The MAI office was established to serve as a home base where underrepresented students in the sciences can receive academic support, advice, and counseling throughout their journey at UT. That means a few things, including:

  • Incoming or prospective students can visit our contacts page prior to matriculation to talk with or email one of our faculty or staff members with any questions or concerns.
  • At any time during their experience at UT, students may come by the office and talk to one of our peer advisors about classes, studying, entertainment, or advice on any topic.
  • Our office hosts a Distinguished Speaker Series that is designed to bring underrepresented faculty from across the country to campus.
  • We help to coordinate programs and groups like the Minority Math & Sciences Student Group and Academic Success Buddies.
  • We offer guidance and support for underrepresented students interested in pursuing research, finding  internships, and connecting up with alumni and Austin-area professionals in industry, academia and medicine.
