The Academic Success Buddies program pairs minority freshmen with upperclassmen in their major areas in order to facilitate a smooth transition into college.

Our first event for the Fall will be "A Date with the Dean," a lunch where buddies meet each other for the first time and also get to know David Laude, the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Affairs.

If you're an upperclassman and would like to participate in the program, the process is simple.

  • Email your name, major, classification and phone number to Lisa Wyatt at lwyatt@mail.utexas.edu.
  • Receive the name and email address of your first-year counterpart.
  • Invite them to the lunch with Dean Laude.
  • Meet your buddy, get to know him or her, and be a role model, counselor and sympathetic ear (i.e. a friend) for them for the rest of the year. Help give them the freshman year experience you had or wished you had.
Incoming first-years interested in participating in the program should also email Lisa Wyatt with their info.
