Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program
  • Students must be currently receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application
  • Students cannot be studying abroad in Cuba or in a nation currently under a U.S. Department of State Travel Warning

  • Amount: Up to $5,000 for semester or academic-year study abroad
  • Additional Information: Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education. This program enables students who have limited financial means to participate in study abroad opportunities worldwide.

NSEP-David Boren Scholarships
  • Every student studying outside of Europe or Australia should research this grant
  • UT Campus Deadline for Undergraduates: usually mid January each year
  • U.S. citizenship required

Dr. Ivy McQuiddy Scholarship
  • Every student going for the full academic year to a non traditional location should apply
  • Students must submit an IEFS application to be considered
  • Deadline: October 1 and March 1
  • Amount: $1000 (one award given)

IIE Fulbright
  • Graduating seniors can apply for study or research after graduation from college
  • Graduate students can apply to fund research projects

Natural Sciences Study Abroad Scholarships
  • Every NS student studying abroad on an EXCHANGE program should apply.
  • Three scholarships are available. One of the three will give preference to students in Chemistry or Biochemistry
  • Amount: $3000 each
  • Students must participate in a year-long program offered through C-GEO
  • Students must study science courses in a language other than English or their native language
  • Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or better. Among such students, decisions will be made on the basis of financial need
  • Students must complete an IEFS application to be considered
  • Deadline: October 1 and March 1

Ex-Students Association - Flying Longhorns Study Abroad Scholarship
  • All students should apply
  • Summer, fall and spring programs are eligible
  • Access through the TexasScholarships.org
  • Deadline: March 1 of each year (one deadline per year)
  • One award of $600
  • For current UT students who are US citizens and have been accepted into an official UT study abroad program. Academic excellence and financial need will be considered. Applicants should email an additional one-page essay to Eleanore Moore describing their study abroad program and reasons why they are studying abroad and why they should be considered for this scholarship.

EUREKA - Undergraduate Research Fellowships

Sustainability in the Americas Fellowship Program
  • For students interested in doing independent research or having internships in Brazil, Canada, or Mexico that examine social, economic, or environmental sustainability from a comparative perspective.
  • These are available for Summer 2008 in Brazil, Canada, and Mexico, and for semester exchanges in Fall 2008 or Spring 2009 in Canada and Mexico.
