The Health Professions Office (HPO) provides students with the information necessary to make informed academic and career decisions regarding many health-related careers (except nursing, clinical laboratory science and nutrition). This information includes prerequisite courses and admission tests preparation.

Information and advising are available for the following pre-professional careers/programs:

  • Dentistry
  • Medicine
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Optometry
  • Other Allied Health Professions
  • Physical Therapy
  • Pharmacy
  • Physician Assistant
  • Public Health
  • Veterinary Medicine

Medical schools accept students from a wide variety of majors in different academic fields as long as they have taken specific prerequisite courses required for admission. There is no such thing as a "pre-med, pre-vet, or pre-dent, etc." major. Students should choose a major in an area they would be interested in pursuing if they do not get into medical, dental, veterinary, etc. programs.

Students register with the special advising code appropriate to the professional program that they are pursuing.
