Mailing List of Undergraduate Research Opportunities

This mailing list was originally developed and maintained by Michael Hoffmann, a Dean's Scholar and undergraduate researcher. The list advertises undergraduate research opportunities of interest to the UT-Austin community. Please post only the following:

* openings for undergraduate researchers at UT-Austin
* programs for undergraduate research elsewhere
* speakers and club meetings that would appeal to aspiring undergraduate researchers.
* information about funding or publication opportunities for undergraduate research

Please do not use the list for general discussion. Thank you.

By default, you will receive the mailing list in digest format. This means all messages sent to the list during the day will be combined into one message for your convenience. You will receive one mailing from the list daily.

Feel free to send questions or comments about this list to Sarah Simmons at s.l.simmons@mail.utexas.edu.

Subscribing

You can subscribe to it by sending a message to listproc@lists.cc.utexas.edu with no subject and the following in the body of the text:

subscribe undergrad-research (E-mail address) (first and last name)

For example:

subscribe undergrad-research jsmith@yourmail.utexas.edu Johnny Smithers

How to Post to the List

You can then send messages to:

undergrad-research@lists.cc.utexas.edu

Since the list accepts postings from anyone, you can post to it from any email address.

How to Get Off the List

To sign off from the list, email to

listproc@lists.cc.utexas.edu with the following request:

signoff UNDERGRAD-RESEARCH or

unsubscribe UNDERGRAD-RESEARCH

Getting your Subscription Attributes

You may get your current subscription attributes at any time by sending the following request to listproc@lists.cc.utexas.edu:

query UNDERGRAD-RESEARCH

Where to Send Email

If you want to post messages to the list, you should direct your email to undergrad-research@lists.cc.utexas.edu, not listproc@lists.cc.utexas.edu. If you wish to send requests please do not send them to the list – they will not be processed. Instead direct them to listproc@lists.cc.utexas.edu.

Requests sent to the server should be placed in the body of the email message, not the subject. ListProc ignores requests in the subject field.

You can, however, put as many requests as you like in one mail message; each request should be on a line by itself. If your request is too long for your mailer to handle, you can break it in multiple lines, but each line should end with the character & (ampersand). For example, here are two separate requests:

set UNDERGRAD-RESEARCH &
mail &
ack
help

The ampersands in the above example are immediately followed by carriage returns. The above requests are equivalent to:

set UNDERGRAD-RESEARCH mail ack

help

Access to the List's Archives

The list is archived regularly and many, if not all, previous postings are available from this server. All past mail messages are collected into (daily, monthly, etc) logs; to get a list of the available logs for this list you may send the following request to listproc@lists.cc.utexas.edu:

index UNDERGRAD-RESEARCH

Each line will show you the log file's name, its size, and a brief comment.

You can then get any logs with the GET request. For example, if you wish to get log9611 you may send the following request to listproc@lists.cc.utexas.edu:

get UNDERGRAD-RESEARCH log9611

Here we assume RESEARCH is the name of the log. Log names may not necessarily be uniform.
