Women In Natural Sciences (WINS) Program

Note: "Fall Hire Only" indicates that applications for these positions will be accepted in the Spring Semester only, for students to begin work in the fall and continue through the spring semester.

The Women in Natural Sciences (WINS) Program at the College of Natural Sciences is designed to promote the recruitment, retention, and success of women at all levels throughout the College.


This program is housed within the College of Natural Science Student Division.


Student position(s) within WINS:


Student Associate (Fall Hire Only)


WINS mentors provide guidance to participants in the WINS Program.  They also have the opportunity to serve as a CNS student ambassador and have the option to tutor one night per week in the Residence Hall Study Groups.

Requirements:

  • Only previous WINS participants are eligible to apply.  In addition, students must be planning to continue with their major in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, computer sciences, math, physics, public health or astronomy.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or better, possess effective communication skills, be able to facilitate cooperative peer relationships; ability to work sensitively with students; teamwork oriented; responsive; attentive to detail; friendly and approachable.  Able to work 5-10 hours each week. Prefer that mentors live on campus.

  • The period of employment for this position commences the week before the fall semester begins and continues through the end of spring, however continued employment through the spring will be contingent on satisfactory job performance evaluation and completion of volunteer activities with each assigned mentee group.  Attendance of the Peer Leader Academy August training is required for new mentors as well as a one-day workshop prior to that training (date to be determined).
