Student Division and the Transitional Advising Center (TrAC)

The College of Natural Sciences Dean's Office, Student Division, the Transitional Advising Center (TrAC) and First Year Advising Center (FYAC) are all housed together in WCH 1.106.  The Student Division provides a wide variety of student services including change of major/college; late adds; drops; withdrawals; provides accurate information, assistance and referrals to all of the students in the college as well as prospective students, parents, staff and faculty.  The TrAC and FYAC provide advising services to the assigned group of students they serve.


Student Position(s) within the Student Division and the TrAC:


Student Assistant

  • Provides excellent customer service to students including scheduling appointments with advisors, checking students in, creating and processing paper work, providing accurate information to current and prospective students, parents, staff and faculty.
  • General office duties include accurately creating forms, checking forms, filing, answering the phone, making copies.
  • Oversee conference room set up.
  • Student assistants also occasionally provide back up to other areas of the Deans Office as requested.
  • Summer workers assist with Orientation including making orientation bags, assisting orientees and working at the Academic Fairs.
  • Prefer applicants with some office or customer service experience.
  • 2.5 or higher GPA

College Readiness Mentor

NOTE: “Summer Hire Only” indicates that applications for these positions will be accepted in the Spring Semester only, for students to work during the summer.

The College of Natural Sciences has a College Readiness program for incoming CNS freshmen that includes completion of the ALEKS Mathematics and Chemistry assessments with a score of 70% before classes begin in fall.

The purpose of this position is to provide support to incoming freshmen in achieving this requirement.  Each mentor will be assigned a group of freshmen to interact with via e-mail, telephone, Skype and Facebook to support, encourage, tutor and provide resource referrals to students to achieve the required scores.

Required Qualifications: 2.75 or higher UT-GPA and a “B” or better in UT Calculus and Chemistry.  Must be available to work 10 hours a week between June 1 and August 15, 2011.  Training meetings will be mandatory.

 

College Readiness/MCAT Review Mentor

NOTE: “Summer Hire Only” indicates that applications for these positions will be accepted in the Spring Semester only, for students to work during the summer.

The College of Natural Sciences has a College Readiness program for incoming CNS freshmen that includes completion of the ALEKS Mathematics and Chemistry assessments with a score of 70% before classes begin in fall.

Additionally, this summer CNS will over an MCAT Science Review course.  Students hired for this position will work with incoming freshmen and assist with students enrolled in the MCAT review course.

Required Qualifications: 3.0 or higher UT-GPA and a “B” or better in UT Calculus (M408C, & D or K, L & M; N & S); Biology (BIO 311C & D); and Chemistry (CH301, 302, 310M & N).  Prefer students who also have Physics course credit.  Must be available to work 15 – 20  hours a week between June 1 and August 15, 2011.  Training meetings will be mandatory.
