Emerging Scholars Program

Note: "Fall Hire Only" indicates that applications for these positions will be accepted in the Spring Semester only, for students to begin work in the fall.

The Emerging Scholars Program (ESP) is a challenging academic program for a select group of entering freshmen who are willing to supplement their introductory lecture courses in calculus, chemistry or biology with additional hours of instruction, a cooperative learning environment, and advising from former emerging scholars.

This program is housed within the College of Natural Science Student Division.


Student position(s) within the Emerging Scholars Program:


Student Assistants (Fall Hire Only)

Job duties: Tutoring students in Calculus and Chemistry. To provide informal mentorship to participants in the ESP programs.  Organizing social and volunteer activities.  Tutoring one night per week for the Residential Study Hall Groups (RHSG) is optional.


Calculus Student Assistant Position with ESP (Fall Hire Only)

-3.0 or higher GPA and/or a B or better in M 408C and M 408D

-Must have been in ESP program -Must be able to work 10 hours

-Must be available during workshop time -Must be able to communicate clearly and discuss math concepts

-The period of employment for this position commences August 2012 and continues through Spring 2013.


Chemistry Student Assistant Position with ESP (Fall Hire Only)

-3.0 or higher GPA and/or a B or better in CH 301 or CH 302

-Must have been in ESP program -Must be able to work 10 hours

-Must be available during workshop time -Must be able to communicate clearly and discuss chemistry concepts

-The period of employment for this position commences August 2012 and continues through the end of spring 2013.
