Research and volunteer experience is just as valuable as paid internship/co-op experience. Both research and volunteer experience will enhance your skills and help you build a great resume for graduation!
How Do I Find a Research or Volunteer Position?
- Network! Ask your professors about research that they are working on, professors generally love to talk about what they are working on and would probably love to have some assistance. Ask family and friends about possibilities with their organizations.
Tell everyone you know that you are interested in gaining experience. It never hurts to be proactive.
- Research the web. There are numerous web pages that link to various opportunities. (This list is extensive, but by no means exhaustive of all that is on the Internet). For on campus research opportunities, visit

- Attend the Career Expo and the Internship/Co-op Fair. It is possible that volunteer and research positions will be available.
- Check out the Career Services library (PAI 5.03). Postings for research positions are located in the library, as well as contact information for various volunteer and research programs. Our office also has reference books that could help with your search!
