| Step 3: Improve Your Score/Strengthen Your Knowledge |
|
Now that you’ve finished the initial ALEKS Math Assessment, you should have a better idea of what topics to review. Keep your eye on the final goal: to prepare yourself for your mathematics courses at UT. Thus try to review as many topics as deeply as possible before the semester begins. (There will be enough new information to keep you busy during the semester.) What are the minimum required ALEKS Math scores for course placement? Every UT student enrolled in one of the below courses is required to obtain a minimum ALEKS Math placement score by 11:59pm on Monday June 3rd (summer) of at least:
* score not required for M316 or SSC courses with credit of calculus or precalculus; SSC may use a previous ALEKS score of 30% or higher. UT Calculus I Course Descriptions What if I do not obtain the required minimum score for course placement? If you did not reach the minimum score for desired course placement, you have two options: Option 1. You may self-remediate in an attempt to improve your score using the ALEKS and UT Learning Modules before by midnight January 9 for spring enrollment ($50 option only). With this option you must still obtain the minimum prerequisite ALEKS Math placement score by 11:59pm on Monday June 3rd or you will be dropped and may lose your place in the course. Option 2. Below is a list of the main topics covered in precalculus (M305G) with which you should be well adept when entering Calculus I.
After availing yourself of these resources, you will be more prepared to take a second UT Math Assessment Exam through ALEKS and place into your desired course. Keep your eye on the final goal: to prepare yourself for your mathematics courses at UT Austin, and remember, placement does not guarantee success. |
