Maymester
1Xaak_Casa_Cenote_Ken_2_2007_078-1Maymester Abroad programs are
four and a half week study abroad programs, taught by UT faculty members, that take place immediately following the spring semester at an international course location. The students are introduced to research methods in various scientific fields while gaining academic credit during their time abroad.

Maymester courses are open to all students, and since they take place after the school year is over, they don't interfere with any other classes you might take.

LIZARD ISLAND MAYMESTER 2012

Taught by Dr. Mary Poteet, Section of Integrative Biology

BIO 337 - Coral Reef Ecology
UGS 119 - Maymester Seminar: Australia

This program engages students through observation and hands-on study of the diverse and often wondrous natural history of Australia, while teaching methods of quantitative field observations, experimental design, research methods, and scientific presentation. The first week is in Sydney, followed by 3 weeks at the Lizard Island Research Station (LIRS), a world-renowned coral reef research station where the students live and work alongside researchers. LIRS enables cost-effective research and education on coral reefs by providing accommodation, boats, laboratories, classrooms, library, snorkeling equipment, general research equipment, and a seawater aquarium system. Lizard Island is an outstanding representative of the terrestrial, marine, and cultural diversity of the Great Barrier Reef.

Program Dates: Thursday, May 24 - Tuesday, June 19, 2012
Program Fees: $6,500
