IEFS Scholarship

Every student should apply International Education Fee Scholarship
Deadline: October 1 and March 1
Additional Information: Bi-annual local competition. Competition for study or research overseas. Awards are based both on merit and need. The competition opens on the first day of each long semester

Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program

Students must be currently receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application.  Students cannot be studying abroad in Cuba or in a nation currently under a U.S. Department of State Travel Warning.
Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program. Students must be U.S. citizens.
Deadlines: Fall/Academic Year - April 4, Spring - September 19 (no summer awards). Amount: Up to $5,000 for semester or academic-year study abroad.  Additional Information: Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education. This program enables students who have limited financial means to participate in study abroad opportunities worldwide. For additional information speak with a Study Abroad Office Advisor.

NSEP-David Boren Scholarships

Every student studying outside of Europe or Australia should research this grant UT Campus Deadline for Undergraduates: usually mid January each year.  U.S. citizenship required.  For additional information speak with a Study Abroad Office Advisor.  David Boren Scholarship site.

Dr. Ivy McQuiddy Scholarship

Every student going for the full academic year to a non traditional location should apply.  Students must submit an IEFS application to be considered
Deadline: October 1 and March 1.  Amount: $1000 (one award given).

Natural Sciences Study Abroad Scholarships

Every NS student studying abroad on an EXCHANGE program should apply. Two scholarships are available. One of the three will give preference to students in Chemistry or Biochemistry.

Students must participate in a year-long exchange program offered through the Study Abroad Office. Students must study science; preference is given to those studying in a language other than English or their native language.  Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or better. Among such students, decisions will be made on the basis of financial need.

Natural Science Summer Research Abroad Scholarship

  • For students who have arranged to spend a summer or long-semester abroad in a research laboratory connected to a foreign university or at a facility doing research related to biological or biomedical sciences.
  • Up to $3,000 award
  • Applications due March 23, 2012.
  • This application cycle is open to those doing research abroad in summer 2012, or during the 2012-13 academic year.

Ex-Students Association - Flying Longhorns Study Abroad Scholarship

All students should apply.  Summer, fall and spring programs are eligible
Access through the TexasScholarships.org.  Deadline: March 1 of each year (one deadline per year).  One award of $600.  For current UT students who are US citizens and have been accepted into an official UT study abroad program. Academic excellence and financial need will be considered. Applicants should email an additional one-page essay to Eleanore Moore describing their study abroad program and reasons why they are studying abroad and why they should be considered for this scholarship.

  • Graduating seniors can apply for study or research after graduation from college
  • Graduate students can apply to fund research projects
