Step 4 for Incoming CNS Students: Assess

First: Know the Goals

The primary goal is to help you prepare for CH301 by reviewing pre-college chemistry topics that may have been forgotten since you last took a chemistry class.

Second: Know the Rules

  • Be Honest.
  • Do the exam on your own: without notes, books, or help from anything or anyone.
  • Have on hand:
    • Writing utensil, such as a favorite pencil
    • Scratch paper
    • Favorite calculator (or you can use the ALEKS online calculator)
  • It is acceptable to use any of the tables that ALEKS has available during the assessment (example: solubility rules) in the tabs across the top of the ALEKS web pages
  • Expect the assessment to take 1.5-2 hours to complete.
  • The ALEKS Chemistry assessment is NOT A TIMED TEST.
  • Please note that ALEKS Chemistry is not just a single assessment. It’s also a powerful, adapts-to-your-needs learning environment. So, while a high initial ALEKS Chemistry score is nice, it’s your final score that counts.
